WHO IS J-ROSE? Jalen Wilson is an independent rapper, artist, skater, clothing designer, photographer/videographer, from Hamilton Ontario Canada. Growing up Jalen dipped his toes in the cold street life of his neighborhood, selling drugs in high school, and battling his addictions. At 17 Jalen was expelled from school for drug dealing and fighting. Jalen was facing an assault charge and was sentenced to a rehabilitation center for troubled youth. Jalen’s life was in shambles, his parents threatening to kick him out, his grades completely dropped, his addictions to drugs and alcohol only worsening, surrounded by fake friends and bad influences. “At this point of my life I had nothing and it felt like I had nobody…Nobody but myself”. In his despair, Jalen began to write raps and lyrics venting his emotions with his words. He began to form a true passion for music and the arts. He beat the assault case and was readmitted into the school system and given a new chance at life. At this new school, Jalen began exploring visual arts, music, production, photography/videography, and clothing design. In September 2018 j-rose released his first mixtape called highschool chronicles telling his life story and touching on his high school conflicts. Some of J-ROSES biggest musical inspirations include Mac Miller, Earlsweatshirt, Asap rocky, Joeybadass, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Jcole, Kendrick Lamar, Jay z, and more. “Music was never “work” for me it always felt natural. I never thought I would be where I am today I just wanted to create something to leave behind and hope that someone could relate and get something from it” after the reaction of the release of Jalen’s first mixtape he knew he had something special he begins to take music 100% serious and chase his dreams. A year later J-ROSE put out his second mixtape “life’s an acid trip and this my first 1” recorded in his basement studio he built himself. engineered at the sound of the north studio Lifes an acid trip depicted his life after the chronicles and the struggles he overcame. Today J-ROSE has over 100k views across all platforms and 12k followers on Instagram and is working on his third and 4rth mixtape. He attends Sheridan college for visual and creative arts and is aspiring to take his business full time by 2023. “I truly believe that my story is important to be heard and can help someone change their life for the better, if I could just help 1 person turn their life around for the better it would mean the world to me”. “You know I’m not perfect and I’m not always gonna make the right decisions in life but I hope my message can be perceived to create a more positive reality for the listener. – J-ROSE
